The application form for the next winter school of the Finnish Doctoral Network for Music Research is now open online (https://www.lyyti.in/MuToVetalvikoulu_2021_0118/en, password: 22talvikoulu). This year, the winter school will be taking place from March 14–16, 2022 at Kallio-Kuninkala. All doctoral candidates involved in music research are eligible to apply.
The deadline is December 1, 2021, after which the applications will be sent to the professors of our partner universities, and subsequently ranked by them. Their proposed lists will be used to compile the group of attendees. We will inform all applicants of the decisions in December. If your application has already been accepted, you do not need to reapply.
The theme of this winter school is academic writing. Our guest lectures will be given by Professor Helmi Järviluoma-Mäkelä (UEF) and Adjunct Professor Olli Löytty (Uni. Turku).
In the winter school, each participant will be presenting their doctoral project by preparing one article, thesis chapter, or similar paper (max. 20 pages), which will be sent to other attendees at least two weeks prior to the event. This way, we aim to ensure that there will be as much time for discussions and commentaries as possible. When filling out the application form, however, applicants are only asked to provide the working title of their paper, as well as a short description of their doctoral project and their research plan (including a preliminary table of contents). It is also possible to perform a short musical piece during the time allotted (ca. 5 minutes) for a brief presentation of your paper at the beginning of the discussion.
The following costs of accepted presenting participants will be covered: traveling, meals, and accommodation during the event. Accommodation facilities in Kallio-Kuninkala are double or triple rooms. Depending on the number of attendees, we will do our best to ensure that the accommodation is arranged as spaciously as possible.
The committee of the Doctoral Network will be following closely all instructions by the Finnish authorities and WHO regarding the COVID-19 situation. This time, the winter school will be taking place in Kallio-Kuninkala as usual, provided that governmental guidelines and potential restrictions allow it. If you will not be able to attend the event in Kallio-Kuninkala for weighty reasons (residing abroad, work reasons etc.), we will arrange for online participation.
